Phil's Volvo S40 1.8 SE

Bought to replace my VW Passat 2.0 SE TDi 140 this Volvo was first registered June 2005.
These are my thoughts during ownership:-

History . . : Bought 15-Nov 2012 at just over 7 years and 5 months old with 1 previous owner in Taunton.
Purchased: From Synergy Cars, Long Eaton, a secondhand car retailer found by searching the interwebnet.
Servicing .: Sold to previous owner from new and all servicing to date by Volvo main dealer in Taunton.
Mileage on purchase: 86,804
Current mileage . . . .: 102,961
Fuel consumption . .: 33.24mpg
Changes from standard specification:- none

Faults/Problems prior to delivery:-
  • Chip on passenger side of windscreen - to be fixed prior to delivery.
Maintenance:-
  • 4 new tyres.
  • 90,000 mile service.
  • New coil on cylinder #1.
  • Near side day time driving light bulb.
  • 100,000 mile service.
Other expense:-
  • 4 floor mats.

Front row seats are just so comfortable. Paper mat will be removed though.


Rear passenger comfort zone...

Likes:-
* Proper hand brake lever, no push button parking brake.
* Just that bit more compact than the Passat.
* Cruise control that's easy to use.
* Comfortable seating.
* Excellent headlights.

Dislikes:-
* Door mirrors - too small and poor field of view.
* Considering the performance the fuel economy is poor.
* Small boot.

Final Update 15/08/2014:-
The interior noise was indicating potential mechanical bills could be pending and expensive.
Will be remembered for being a comfortable way of getting about.
Traded in against the Mazda6.
