Mazda rebooted...Mazda rebooted 1 - 05/12/2014Fed up with the tyres I booked the car in BAB Motors, Derby for a pair of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyres to go onto the front axle, with the idea of putting the best of the from the front pair on the rear to replace the nasty budget Evergreen tyre that was on the off side rear. However, as soon as the front wheels were removed it was obvious that another solution would have to be sought as both had a deep split across the tread, as did the othe Khumo that was on the rear. So 4 tyres were needed, but BAB only had 2 Goodyears in stock (as ordered) so the rear got a pair of Avon ZV5, saving £25 a corner on the cost of the Goodyears. Total cost was (gulp) £480 but the tyres are 225/45/R18 so that's a lot of rubber. Mazda rebooted 2 - 13/12/2014 I've had the wheels freshly refurbished The Wheel Specialists in Burton on Trent. I took advantage of a special offer they ran on Facebook a week ago, £250 inc vat. saving £146 on normal price. My son Andy had his wheels done 12 months ago on his Seat Leon Cupra on a similar deal and they are still mega so I had no hesitation in going to them with my 6. They operate on a drive in drive out basis so I dropped the car off early Friday morning and collected 24 hours later. Wheels off, everything is removed (including the TPMS valves), acid dipped, washed, damage repaired, stove enamelled and rebuilt, including balancing . They really give the car some bling and it is a top notch job they have done too. I am well happy, now all I have to do is keep from kerbing them. The following pictures were taken on collection of the car after the wheels had been refurbished. Outside The Wheel Specialists in Burton awaiting my collection. The offside front wheel. The offside rear wheel. From the rear. When I bought the Mazda I had 2 dislikes, the tyres and the finish on the wheels - well that is both of them sorted. The Goodyears are fantastic, the Avons less so (a bit noisy) but the overall lift that this reboot exercise has given the car is well worthwhile. Mazda rebooted 3 - 21/01/2016 Well I didn't manage to avoid the kerbing and both front wheels have needed refurbishment, and the Goodyears have worn out very quickly and needed to be replaced. I did a deal with The Wheel Specialist that meant they would refurbish the 2 wheels and fit new Uniroyal Rainsport 3 tyres I bought at a very good discount on-line. Turns out that they are superior to the Goodyears in every way, and an excellent choice for the Mazda 6. And so farewell - 31/08/2017... On 31st August 2017 the MAzda was traded in against a 2 year old Kia Sportage KZ3 CRDi for Suzie and I bought her Peugeot 207cc off her for what she was offered as a trade-in, so she got the price she wanted and I got a low mileage car with just 29k miles on the odometer. All it needed was a tank of diesel and a new MoT, which it duly passed on Friday 8th September. No, the Peugeot is not the same class of motor that the Mazda 6 is, but as all I need is reliable transport to and from work and Suzie now has a family sized car then the Peugeot will do me for now.
